Our annual school musical was staged in the Premier Hall last week and once more it was a tremendous success. ‘Grease’ was performed to packed houses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. These highly enjoyable performances were the culmination of months of hard work and preparation by both staff and students alike. Alex Murphy starred in the lead role as Danny and he was ably assisted on stage by Dylan Greene( Kenickie), Fionn McCartan(Doody), Daniel Matthews(Roger), Darragh Byrne(Sonny), Loughlin Russell(Eugene), Jack Fitzgibbon(Vince Fontaine), Gavin Murphy(Johnny Casino), Diarmaid Meagher(Teen Angel), Anthony Maher(Mr. Lynch) and Darren O Sullivan(Jock).

As usual the girls from the Presentation and Ursuline Convents added glamour and talent to the show with lead roles being excellently played by Emer Carew, Bridin Ryan, Ruth Everard, Megan Long, Amy Keelan, Maedbh Ryan and Aine Taylor. The school musical is a huge undertaking and this year there were over 150 students participating on stage. Added to this were the many transition year students who helped with the set construction and painting, as well as those involved back stage. It is also extremely satisfying to see the orchestra comprised of so many students, both present and past.

Obviously a huge amount of hard work goes into staging such a production and the entire cast are to be applauded for their commitment and dedication. Likewise the musical would never have taken place without the vision and commitment of producer and musical director, Deirdre Ryan-Preston and of the director, Sarah Feehan.  Their backstage team and all those who helped out with costumes, props, sponsorship, make-up, and the box office are also to be commended while a special word of thanks goes to Mr. Pierce Murphy who once more added his wealth of experience and expertise to set construction and backstage management. Also involved in set design and construction were Mr. Shanahan and Ms. McCarthy. Well done to all those who contributed to what was a very successful production.
