Transition Year History and Geography Trip

On Thursday, the 28th of April , our transition year students travelled to Belfast for their history and geography overnight trip. That morning they visited the impressive and enlightening Titanic Centre where they learnt about the building of the Titanic and the history of the Harland and Wolff shipbuilding yard and the White Star Shipping Line. In the afternoon the pupils participated in guided tours of both the Falls Road and the Shankill Road, where they viewed murals and were told about the city’s violent recent history by guides who themselves had been involved in ‘The Troubles’. It was an eye-opening and fascinating experience for the pupils. On the following day the students visited the world-famous basalt columns of The Giant’s Causeway before crossing the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge in scenic Ballintoy.

MOG Car Safety Demonstration

On Friday last our transition year students attended a car safety demonstration course intended to teach young drivers about the limitations and frailties of a motor vehicle, thereby dispelling the notion of "invincibility" behind the wheel. The students were able to examine the internal workings of a specially modified car and gain an insight into the dangers of driving with damaged parts. It was a very interesting demonstration which helped to encourage responsible driving among young people.
