Munster Senior Cup

Our senior soccer panel progressed to the second knockout round of the Munster Senior Cup following a 5-0 victory over Colaiste Dun Iascaigh of Cahir on Friday last, the 13th of January. Thurles opened the scoring after twenty minutes, compliments of a long range Conor Stakelum free kick. Stakelum then doubled the lead minutes later with another long range effort from a free kick. Frank McKevitt found the top corner with ten minutes left to the interval while Ronan McGuire made sure of the result just on the brink of half time, slotting in a James O Sullivan cross from 12 yards out. Chances for both sides were few and far between in the second half but Conor Stakelum completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot with just minutes left to play. Next up for the panel will be an encounter with Cashel Community School in the next round of the competition.

Harty Cup

This year’s Harty Cup campaign came to a disappointing end last Wednesday, the 11th of January, as the panel was defeated by Our Lady’s of Templemore at the quarter-final stage of the competition. Two first half goals from Templemore meant that they led at half-time by 2-4 to 8 points. Templemore pulled away in the second half despite a goal from Odhran Quirke and they eventually ran out victors on a scoreline of 3-14 to 1-10; all 10 Thurles points coming courtesy of Darragh Woods. The school would like to thank the entire panel for their dedication and hard work throughout the campaign and also to acknowledge the commitment of their mentors, Mr. Kelly, Mr. Buckley and Mr. McCormack. We now look forward with hope and anticipation to next year’s campaign.

School Musical

Preparations for this year’s school show, ‘Thank You For The Music’, are currently in full swing with the cast busily rehearsing their lines and practising their choreography. The musical, which features the music of Abba ( including such classics as ‘ Dancing Queen’, ‘Take a Chance On Me’ and ’Waterloo’) will be performed in The Premier Hall on Thursday the 4th, Friday the 5th  and Saturday, the 6th of February. Tickets can be booked in advance by contacting the box office at 0504-20729. Performances commence at 8.15 pm. We hope to see you there.

BT Young Scientist

The school would like to compliment transition year students, Luke Moore, Diarmuid Maher and Michael Maher on their participation in the BT Young Scientist competition which took place in the RDS last week. Their very interesting study focused on the effects of social media usage on exam results.
