Irish Angus Beef Competition

Irish Angus Beef Competition

Congratulations to transition year pupils, Kieran Cummins and Niall Moloney, whose entry into the Irish Angus Beef Competition has been successfully chosen, from a total of 64 entries, as one of the five national finalists.

The students will now be given the exciting opportunity to participate in a very practical national competition which will see them being presented with five Angus cross calves at next year’s National Ploughing Championships. The students will then spend the next eighteen months rearing the animals before they eventually go to slaughter. The boys will then have to present their findings on a range of issues such as sustainability, meat quality, animal welfare and marketing.

The overall winners of the competition will be announced in April 2016. Kieran and Niall will also have the added bonus of being able to use this competition as the basis for their Leaving Cert Agricultural Science project.
