Exciting new developments at CBS Thurles

CBS Thurles are delighted to announce two very exciting new developments that will enhance the student experience in the school going into the future.

Firstly, the school has expanded on its already broad and balanced curriculum with the addition of a new subject, Home Economics. Home Economics develops the knowledge, understanding, skills and values necessary achieve optimal, healthy and sustainable living for every person as an individual, and as a member of families and society. It is studied through three interconnected strands: Food, Health and Culinary Skills; Responsible Family Living; and, Textiles and Craft.

The school is delighted that funding was provided and with the support of the Principal and Board of Management a new fully furnished Home Economics room was approved.

The boys are already looking forward to getting stuck into the new kitchen and equipment, and parents are waiting with great expectations for the tasty treats that they will be rustling up next week!!

The second development is the approval of a modern sports area in the school yard, the main element of which is a large self-contained astro-turf playing pitch. It is something the boys have craved for years and marks the fruition of several years of fund raising. Huge thanks to the CBS Thurles school community, having completed several Fun Runs and fund raisers, we are delighted to confirm that final plans for transforming the sports in the yard are now complete. We are in the process of tendering for contractors and expect to have works completed this year.

As well as the astro-turf playing pitch. The new expanded plans also include the provision of a new outdoor Basketball court, the upgrading of the existing ball alleys as well as the addition of a third multi use alley. A spectator zone is also planned.

This will improve our lunch time activities further by allowing our games to take place in a state-of-the-art facility which our students deserve. It will also assist with our team preparation as we continue to promote our many games and to compete at the highest level possible in county, Munster and All Ireland competitions.

It's another step in the continuing evolution and development of CBS Thurles who for over 200 years have been catering for the academic, spiritual and social needs of students in the region. Putting the student experience and wellbeing at the heart of our activity is what CBS Thurles do well.
