Fundraising Proposal for 2016
As we celebrate the national celebrations of the 1916 Rising we in CBS Thurles are celebrating our Bicentenary celebrations. Our school was founded in 1816 by William and Thomas Cahill. The composite monastery and school was situated in what was then known as Pudding Lane. It catered for both primary and secondary pupils.
To mark this wonderful achievement, we will be holding a number of events over the year. Our Bicentenary celebrations also provide the opportunity through fund-raising to build a full size all-weather pitch. This would be suitable for hurling, football, soccer and general PE. We view sport as an important part of school life; together with health, fitness and general wellbeing it helps with students’ self-esteem and nurtures a team spirit which can have a really positive impact on their adult lives.
The advantages of having an all-weather playing surface available year round will be beneficial to our sporting ethos. Construction is to commence as soon as sufficient funds are available. Anticipated cost is currently in the region of €185,000. With support from the school community we will be carrying out many fundraising activities including; sponsorship, race nights events, raffles, etc. We would be delighted if individuals, local business and especially past pupils were able to assist with donations in order to help us fund this important and beneficial development for the school.
Our Bicentenary celebrations are well under way and we have a number of events planned over the next few months. In April we will be holding an ICT learning event in the school showing how technology is now embedded in the learning environment. In May we will be holding a Race Night fundraiser. Our celebrations will continue into the next academic year with further events planned for September and October. Our aim is to raise €185,000 towards our All Weather Pitch.
